Totonicapán, 21 May ( Cerigua ) .- A literacy campaign promoting in Totonicapán the National Literacy Committee (CONALFA ), Project Santa Maria,
Laureano Rosales, CONALFA, reported that 75 percent of the learners do not read or write anything, so they are seen in reading, writing and numeracy skills, 15 percent participate in the stage of post-literacy, which is equal to the third grade, while the remaining 10 percent is in the second stage.
The literacy and receive an incentive of 500 quetzales for ten hours of work per week, with hours and days according to the possibilities of the participants, so it can be even on Saturdays or Sundays or at night, he said.
In total, 560 communities are benefit from this program with procedures established by CONALFA, the topmost stage is nine months, starting in February and ends in November, or follow the post literacy is ten months, from February to October.
Finally, Rosales said the goal is to slow to 2 percent of illiteracy in the department, since it is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Education.
